Dentist in Beldon
A family practice a short drive from Beldon, and a good one to ring if it has been longer than you would like to admit.
A surprising number of adults have not seen a dentist in five years or more, and almost none of them are unaware of it. They know. What keeps them away is rarely the teeth themselves. It is the expectation of being told off about them.
We do not do that, and not out of politeness. A lecture achieves nothing clinically and reliably costs the practice the patient, which means the next five years go the same way as the last five.
What actually helps is a longer appointment, an examination with no treatment planned for the same visit, and being told what we find in plain terms with the order it should be dealt with in. You can stop at any point, and stopping is not treated as a problem.

Questions we get from Beldon
- It has been years. Will I get a lecture?
- No. You already know how long it has been, so saying it back to you achieves nothing except making the next appointment less likely. We look, we tell you what is there, and we work out what to do about it.
- Can I stop partway through?
- Yes, at any point and without explaining why. Agree a signal with the dentist at the start if that is easier than speaking. Stopping an appointment early is a normal thing that happens, not a failure.
- Can I come in for a look without committing to treatment?
- That is usually the sensible way to start. An examination and a conversation, then a written plan you take away. Booking any of the work on it is a separate decision, made later.
- What actually happens at a first appointment after a long gap?
- An examination, X-rays, and a conversation. Nothing is treated on the day unless you are in pain and want it dealt with. You leave with a written plan in order of priority and the costs against it, and you decide what happens next and how quickly.
- Will you tell me off about how long it has been?
- No. It is one of the most common ways people arrive, and the reason is nearly always time, money or one bad experience years ago. None of those is improved by being commented on. Say when you book that it has been a while and we will simply allow more time.
- What if I need a lot of work doing?
- Then it gets ordered rather than listed. Anything painful or infected first, anything deteriorating next, and cosmetic last — and you are told which is which. Very few plans have to happen all at once, and pretending otherwise is how people are frightened off a second time.
If you have been putting it off
Say so when you ring. It is worth saying to reception up front, because it changes how much time we set aside and what we intend to do with it.

- A longer first appointment, with an examination and nothing else booked
- 02
- Everything explained before it happens, and stopped the moment you ask
- 03
- No commentary on how long it has been. We have genuinely heard it before
