Gnangara sits at the edge of the built-up area, which changes the arithmetic of a dental appointment. When the drive is longer, a referral is not a minor inconvenience. It is a second trip, on a different day, to somewhere further away again.

So it matters what a practice can finish itself. Extractions including wisdom teeth, crowns and bridges, implants, dentures and laser treatment are all done here rather than sent on.

Some things genuinely do need a specialist referral, and we will say so plainly when they do. But that is the exception rather than the routine, and it is worth knowing which practices treat it as which.

Done here, not referred on

The list of what a general practice will take on itself varies a lot more than most people realise, and it is not something you find out until you are already in the chair.

  • Wisdom teeth and general extractions carried out in the practice

  • Implants, crowns, bridges and dentures without a second clinic involved

  • Laser dentistry in house, which several practices this size refer out

Questions we get from Gnangara

Do you take wisdom teeth out here?
Yes, under local anaesthetic in the practice. Some cases are genuinely better done by an oral surgeon, and an X-ray at the consultation is what tells us which yours is. We will say so before you have committed to anything.
What is laser dentistry used for?
Gum treatment, some decay removal, and parts of root canal and whitening work. It replaces the drill for those, which for many patients means no injection and less noise. Ask whether your particular treatment is one of them.
What would you refer out?
Complex oral surgery, some orthodontic cases, and anything where a specialist will genuinely get a better result than we will. When that is the answer we say it directly rather than attempting it.
Are wisdom teeth ever sent elsewhere?
Sometimes, and the OPG decides it rather than a preference. Where a lower wisdom tooth is deeply impacted or lies against the nerve that supplies the lip and chin, or where a general anaesthetic is the better option, we say so and refer rather than attempt it. You are told which category yours is in before anything is booked.
Does having it all done here save time?
Usually a good deal of it. One practice holds your records and your X-rays, so there is no waiting for a referral, no repeating images, and no gap between somebody deciding a thing is needed and somebody else being available to do it.
What is a digital OPG and will I need one?
A single panoramic image of the whole jaw, showing every tooth including the ones that have not come through, taken in about twenty seconds with you standing up. It is the usual first step for wisdom teeth or implants, and it is not needed for a routine check-up.
